Bamboo Valley Farm (BVF) is 15 minutes from Lihue airport. We are located 30 minutes from Hanalei (north shore) and 30 minutes from Poipu (south shore). Take the easy five-minute drive through quaint agricultural neighborhoods down to bohemian Kapa’a town and the beach.

BVF was conceived and built by Dr. Kathleen Van Kirk. Her desire was to build a small-scale eco-oriented healing retreat property that offered an authentic Hawai’ian experience. The property consists of four acres; including two valleys, a spring-fed stream, views of the ocean and three mountain ranges. BVF currently propagates fruits (lilikoi, guava, coconuts, bananas, and papayas) and will soon be an operational organic cacao (chocolate) farm.

BVF offers Allergy Relief Retreats (www.AbsoluteAllergyRelief.com), Fertility Enhancement Retreats (www.kanecafertilityinstitute.com), Personal Enrichment Retreats and group yoga. Anahata Yoga Kaua’i (Anahata Yoga Kauai) and the Institute for Sexual Enrichment (Institute for Sexual Enrichment) is also based out of BVF.

When not offering retreats BVF is the ideal short-term vacation rental.

Hale Alana I’o (House of the Awakened Heart):

The bamboo structures that make up the residence/retreat center were designed to be as eco-friendly as possible. The bamboo was sustainably forested in Vietnam and the houses themselves were prefabricated there as well. The structures are designed to take full advantage of the Hawai’ian climate. They have vented roofs, ceiling fans and both structures were created to pick up all of those wonderful trade winds. Air-conditioning is never needed. Almost 1500 square feet of lanai space allows everyone to live an indoor/outdoor existence -- feeling as close to nature as possible. Stargazing is a must here and the multiple skylights and lanais are a perfect option for viewing.

The residence/retreat center is the largest all bamboo home in the world. It has been built according to Feng Shui principles and with positive prana (also called mana in Hawaiian). Crystals were actually included in various aspects of the building. The house and property have been blessed by a Hawaiian Kahuna (spiritual leader) and Buddhist Lama.

There is a five-person Jacuzzi and two outdoor garden showers. There are five bedrooms and two lofts (all are double occupancy except the lofts, which can accommodate either two adults or a very large number of children on wall-to-wall futons). Each room (except for the lofts) has its own entrance to the lanai. There is one main great room and dining area w/multiple areas of outdoor seating and hammocks. One large shared kitchen and a smaller indoor/outdoor kitchen. There are 3 shared bathrooms. One of which is a travertine walk-in dual head shower and another is a shower and claw-foot tub. The whole property runs on solar power. There is enough parking for several rental cars.

Farm Life

Keep in mind this is a “farm” retreat so there will be the occasional sounds of animals in the distance. 

Child Care

So??? Whatta I do wit da kids??? Good question. Nothing official mind you but we do have this recently retired Theatre Professor on the grounds who just relocated to the island. His five grand children live in Phoenix and he misses them immensely. So he looks forward to any opportunity to spend time with young ones. And he’s always with Max – another lover of kids. In fact here is a photo of Max – who is actually quite famous on the Island.

Meals

You may wish to take advantage of the meal option where we prepare delicious and (for the most part) locally grown organic foods. Fish, eggs and dairy served occasionally. No meat will be served. If interested - you will be given guidance and suggestions for optimal diets once you leave. You are also welcome to prepare your own meals.

Kosher or Kashrut dietary laws are observed on the premises. If you choose to prepare your own meals you are welcome to use our food products or bring in food items that permit us to remain a Kosher facility. We have outdoor grills for those who wish to prepare and consume non-kosher meal outdoors.

We can also arrange for accommodations at 17 Palms Kauai – much more private and great proximity to the ocean.
